i was living in southern california for the 1994 earthquake, too. the earthquake itself was bad enough, but all those aftershocks are what did me in. also, you used nonplussed correctly. many people think it means not surprised, or not bothered, when in fact it mean surprised! you're like a super special genius.

I think I might just start leaving underpants where ever I go; the dentist's office, the vet, the grocery store, the library. Also one time? I took my car to be repaired, and when I got it back, I discovered that I had a bra and a couple of pairs of underpants just sitting in the backseat for all the world to see. I have no idea why they were there in the first place. Sometimes I think my undergarments have a life of their own.
